Function

Blown Film Extrusion is one of the processes to produce plastic film products such as food packaging film, industrial film, agricultural film, medical film, etc. The main polymers materials are LDPE, HDPE, PP, PE. The Extruder Blown Film Die Head is the core component which is called the "HEART" of the Plastic Film Blowing Machine. The main function of Die Head is to distribute the melted polymer evenly so that the thickness measured around the circumference of the tube being produced is uniform. It is the key factor to ensure a quality film.

Design

A well-designed Blown Film Die make the molten polymer travel through the Die Head smoothly without any of the polymer staying inside. A good quality melt means it does not have flow die lines on the surface which could result in defects on the film. A good Extruder Blown Film Die Head design incorporates properly constructed flow channels to allow the molten film to flow with the average speed around the circumference. Co-Extrusion Dies are another type of design allowing for speedy production of multilayered films. Co-Extrusion Dies are often used to change the structure of the layers to match the characteristic of polymers. The difference polymers affect the design of Extruder Blown Film Die Head, as well. This also requires Die Head to have a short residence time. Further, the purge or change-over times are not excessive when switching from one polymer to another.

Types

There are two main categories of Extruder Blown Film Die Head design: Spiral and Stackable Type. Spiral type of Die Heads are the most common types of Blown Film Dies for Extrusion Blown Films. Our Stackable Type Co-Extrusion Dies reach up to 11 Layers and are the typical die used for the production of high-tech films. The types of applications where films are used include food packaging film, technical film, sealing film, agricultural film, medical film, shrink-and-stretch film, TPU film, biodegradable plastic bags, etc. In Film Blowing, the final product has to meet specific performance requirements, which are usually set by the customer or dictated by its end use. Depending on different needs, the Blown Die Heads are divided into single layer, two layers, three layers ABC/ABA, and multi-layers.

Materials

Our steel material used for the Plastic Extrusion Dies is S45C, which is in accordance with the JIS standard. Depending on the different types of polymers and other requirements from our customers, we offer various steel materials, such as SCM4, SUS304, SNCM4, etc.

Quality Management

To ensure the stability of material and the quality of Blown Film Dies, heat treatment is a critical process. We do heat treatment with HRC26-30 degrees which is in accordance with HRC (Hardness Rockwell C) to maintain the stability of Extruder Blown Film Die Head from deforming when manufacturing. Also, it can stay in normal status when facing the effect of thermal expansion and contraction. In manufacturing, HSIN LONG owns the professional mechanicals of CNC Lathe Machine, CNC Milling Machine, Drilling. These precision devices achieve the technique of 90% made in house. HSIN LONG does the chrome plating on the surface to reach HRC 65-70 degree in order to adapt the high temperature when blowing films. When the polymers pass through, it provides a layer of protection to let it pass more smoothly, easily, and fast. Furthermore, we use the Coating Thickness Gauge to check the thickness of it.

Besides, the quality of fasten screw is what we emphasis as well. We use the Hexagon socket Head Cap Screw which is a very tough type for the Die Head. The characteristic is it bears the alternation of stress, and the higher variation of torque. It is said that a straw shows which way the wind blows just like us never ignore any details. We care, far beyond your imaginations.

Precision Manufacturing

In order to guarantee the quality of Die products, we use different precision devices to check inspect each part.

  • First, to check the measurement of Dies, we use the Height Gauge, Vernier Caliper, and Inside/Outside Micrometer.
  • Second, the Roughness Tester detects the completeness of faying surface to prevent from leaking.
  • Third, the Equotip Hardness Tester ensures the hardness and the stability of steel material. To reach the high performance of Die Head in Film Blowing as to produce the plastic film, all the detected processes are indispensable.

Cleaning

From customer’s points of view, HSIN LONG emphasis the convenient operation. To put customers at first, we use the easiest way to clean and assemble the Blown Film Dies. Although clean and assemble needs a critical technique, to clean the Blown Film Dies only takes few times and steps.

  • First, heating the Die Head to melt the polymer which remain inside.
  • Second, to disassemble the Die Head into pieces components.
  • Third, using the Parting Agent to remove the materials residue inside. Preventing to leave any marks on the channel, the use of sharp tool is prohibited. After cleaning, customers can assemble them back step by step.

Total Solution

HSIN LONG offers the all-around service to adjust Blown Film Die designs, including the size of extruder, the speed of running, the quantity of the output, differences in materials, the density of the products, and the demands of films. By the import of Computer Aided Design/Manufacturing, CAD is for the design, and the CAM is for the manufacturing part. Mold Flow Analysis simulates and optimizes the parameter of the channel in Die Head. Further, polymer shear viscosity, temperature, stress, and density influence the design in Blown Film Die analysis. These analysis programs emphasis the film properties for excellent appearance, such as elongation, flexibility, thickness and strength. This way helps to prevent the potential problems, reduce the production cost, and shorten the cycle time.
